Just One “More” Thing!
“Just One Thing!” We have all heard this environmentally friendly call to action. If we each did that one thing, the global chain reaction would make a huge impact on the planet’s well being. By nature, the automotive industry requires the use of many chemicals and other hazardous items. However, by properly handling, disposing and recycling as much of those items as possible, we at Dick Hannah Honda can lessen our impact just like anyone else.
Over the last 11 Months, the Dick Hannah Honda Service department has consumed (and thrown in the trash) 5,220 aerosol cans of Brake Cleaner. In addition to cleaning brake components, we use it to keep our customer’s cars clean and their driveways free of those pesky oil drips after service work. As of March 2010, we have switched over to the refillable Sure Shot cans. Not only do we spare the dumpster from the onslaught of aerosol cans (almost 6,000 a Year!), the Sure Shots use simple compressed air to propel the solvent, dramatically reducing the amount of those nasty gasses that affect the ozone. The fluid to refill these cans comes in a single 55 gallon drum which is also recycled.
“Just one thing” is not really an applicable phrase here at Dick Hannah Honda. In my opinion, we never stop with just ONE thing. Our list of “one things” is huge and growing every day! It gives me great pride to work for a company that supports an environmental mindset, even when it sometimes costs a bit more to do it the right way.

Honda Recall Notice
Statement by American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Regarding VSA Modulator Recall
TORRANCE, Calif. – March 16, 2010 – Honda will recall approximately 344,000 Odyssey and 68,000 Element vehicles from the 2007-2008 model years in the U.S. to modify the Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) modulator. Honda has received customer complaints of brake pedals that feel “soft” or that gradually exhibit a pedal height that gets lower (closer to the floor) before the vehicle stops. In affected vehicles, this condition tends to very slowly increase over time.
Some VSA modulators were assembled in a manner that could allow air intrusion, making it possible for air to enter the modulator during the VSA self-check mode. While only a miniscule amount of air can enter the system during each check, over a period of months or years, the air will accumulate and can result in the “soft brake pedal” or “low brake pedal” condition symptoms associated with this issue. Although not all vehicles being recalled are affected by this issue, we are recalling all possible units to assure all customers that their vehicles will perform correctly.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of these vehicles to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification from Honda that their vehicle is affected. Notification to customers will start at the end of April.
Once owners of these vehicles receive written notification of this recall from Honda, they should contact their authorized Honda dealer to schedule an appointment for repair. When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers. To this end in addition to contacting customers by mail, after April 19, 2010, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicle requires repair by going on-line or calling. Valentine’s Day – Give a Tree
Friends of Treesis offering a great a way to give to both the earth and your valentine this year…Give a tree! The non profit organization is taking the green initiative and for $35 you can have a young native tree planted for your valentine in their name. In the last 20 years, volunteersfor the organization have planted more than 380,000 trees and plants and this year one could be yours.
You and your valentine will also have the opportunity to plant the tree if you desire, on March 28th in the Collins Sanctuary in Forest Park (9:00 am – 1:00 pm). What a fabulous way to give something truly great!
